2026 Remote Desktop Comparison Matrix

1. SimpleViewer 2.3 — Best Overall Replacement for Personal & IT Helpdesk

SimpleViewer was engineered specifically to solve the two biggest frustrations with legacy tools: bloated background services (24 MB RAM vs 145 MB) and punitive licensing. It provides both a 9-digit Device ID workflow for instant ad-hoc customer support and a Google OAuth 'My Computers' roster for 1-click unattended access — completely free for up to 3 computers with zero session timers.

2. Why Sub-15ms Binary TCP Relay Beats Legacy Multi-Tenant Gateways

Unlike browser-only wrappers or throttled free relays, SimpleViewer uses a dedicated binary TCP relay on port 7891 with TCP_NODELAY and end-to-end AES-256-GCM encryption, delivering 11.4 ms median latency at 60 FPS across Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.
